How it Works

Fotona’s Er:YAG non-ablative laser with proprietary “Smooth-mode” technology thermally affects the vaginal tissue, stimulating collagen remodeling and the synthesis of new collagen fibers in the region of the vestibule and urethral orifice, as well as in the area along the anterior vaginal wall.

How We Do It

Consultation & Assessment: We start with an in-depth consultation to understand your specific needs and assess whether IncontiLase® is the right treatment for you. We discuss your symptoms, health history, and answer any questions you may have.

Preparation: On the day of the procedure, we ensure you are comfortable and prepared for treatment. The IncontiLase® procedure itself is non-invasive, so no incisions or anesthesia are required.

Laser Treatment: Using Fotona’s precise Er:YAG laser, we deliver controlled pulses of photothermal energy to stimulate collagen regeneration in the vaginal tissue and endopelvic fascia. This gentle heating effect promotes collagen tightening and remodeling, enhancing support to the bladder and reducing symptoms of urinary incontinence.

Aftercare & Results: After the procedure, most patients can return to their daily activities right away. Results vary, but many patients experience noticeable improvement in bladder support and symptom relief within weeks of the treatment. For optimal results, a follow-up session may be recommended.

Side Effects

The Treatment is a safe, non-invasive procedure with minimal side effects. However, as with any treatment, there are some potential mild side effects that patients should be aware of. Mild discomfort, you may experience slight warmth or tingling during the treatment, temporary redness or swelling, vaginal dryness or discharge, this generally resolves within a few hours to a day.

Time to Full Effect

The full effects of IncontiLase® treatment typically develop gradually over several weeks to a few months as collagen remodeling and tissue tightening progress. Most patients begin to notice improvement in symptoms within a few weeks, with optimal results generally achieved around 2-3 months after the treatment.

Is IncontiLase® suitable for my type and severity of urinary incontinence?

IncontiLase® is designed for mild to moderate stress urinary incontinence (SUI) and mixed urinary incontinence. During a consultation, our doctor assesses your specific needs to determine if this treatment will be effective for you.

Are there any specific preparations or lifestyle adjustments I should make before and after treatment?

No special preparation is required before treatment. Afterward, we recommend avoiding heavy exercise, hot baths, and sexual activity for 2–3 days to allow your body time to heal. We’ll provide detailed aftercare guidance for optimal recovery.

What kind of results should I expect after one treatment, and how soon will I notice improvements?

Many patients begin to see improvements within a few weeks as collagen renewal progresses, with full results typically visible around 2–3 months post-treatment. Results vary, but you can expect enhanced support to the bladder and a reduction in urinary symptoms.

What are the risks, and how can any potential side effects be managed?

IncontiLase® is a safe procedure with minimal side effects, such as temporary redness, mild discomfort, or slight vaginal dryness. These effects are typically short-lived and manageable. We’ll provide aftercare instructions to help you minimize any discomfort.

How long will the results last, and will I need follow-up sessions?

The results of IncontiLase® can last up to a year or more. Some patients opt for annual maintenance sessions to prolong results, but this varies based on individual needs and lifestyle.

Is there any downtime or aftercare required post-treatment?

There is minimal to no downtime, allowing you to resume daily activities right away. For the best results, follow our aftercare guidelines, which include avoiding certain activities for a few days, as mentioned above.

  • Ensure you are free from any active vaginal infections (e.g., yeast or bacterial infections) before the treatment.
  • Schedule your treatment when you’re not on your menstrual period.
  • Stay well-hydrated in the days leading up to your appointment. Hydrated tissues respond better to treatment and can improve overall comfort.
  • Shave the external treatment area a day before your session.
  • On the day of your appointment, wear loose, comfortable clothing to avoid irritation after the treatment.
  • Avoid using tampons, douches, or any vaginal creams 24 hours before your treatment.
  • Inform your provider of any recent gynecological surgeries, treatments, or ongoing medications.
  • Avoid Heavy Exercise for at least 48 hours after the treatment. This allows the treated tissue to heal without added stress.
  • Avoid sexual intercourse for 2-3 days post-treatment to give the area time to heal and minimize the risk of irritation.
  • Avoid hot baths and saunas for 48 hours after treatment.
  • Drink plenty of water in the days following your treatment. Hydration supports collagen production and tissue health, aiding in the healing process.
  • Refrain from using tampons, douches, or vaginal creams for 3-5 days after the procedure.
  • Wear Loose Clothing to prevent friction or pressure on the treated area, which can help reduce any potential discomfort or irritation.
