How it Works

The ProlapLase® treatment is based on precisely controlled laser-induced photothermal effects of Fotona’s 2940 nm Er:YAG laser in mucosa tissue, stimulating collagen remodeling and the synthesis of new collagen fibers. The result of collagen neogenesis and remodeling is shrinkage and tightening of the vaginal canal without removal of any tissue.

How We Do It

Consultation & Assessment: We begin with a comprehensive consultation to understand your specific concerns, medical history, and goals. This allows us to confirm that IntimaLase® is suitable for you.

Preparation: On the day of the treatment, we ensure you are relaxed and comfortable. The ProlapLase® procedure is non-invasive, so no incisions or anesthesia are needed, making it a convenient and low-stress experience.

Laser Treatment: The ProlapLase® protocol includes three steps:

Step 1: Circular (360°) irradiation of the whole vaginal canal.
Step 2: Angular irradiation of the prolapsed side of the vaginal wall.
Step 3: Irradiation of the vestibule region and prolapsed vaginal wall.

Usually, patients will require more than one treatment session (up to four).

Aftercare & Recovery: After the procedure, you can return to your daily activities immediately. For the best results, we provide aftercare guidelines, including any temporary precautions to enhance healing.

Results & Follow-Up: Improvements are often noticeable within weeks as the tissue strengthens and tightens. For optimal results, a second session may be recommended after 4–6 weeks, depending on the severity of the condition.

Side Effects

The Treatment is a safe, non-invasive procedure with minimal side effects. However, as with any treatment, there are some potential mild side effects that patients should be aware of. Mild discomfort, you may experience slight warmth or tingling during the treatment, temporary redness or swelling, vaginal dryness or discharge, this generally resolves within a few hours to a day.

Time to Full Effect

The full effects of ProlapLase® treatment typically develop gradually over 2 to 3 months as collagen remodeling and tissue strengthening progress. Most patients notice improvements in their symptoms within a few weeks, with optimal results becoming evident around the 3-month mark.

For more severe cases of pelvic organ prolapse, a second session may be recommended 4 to 6 weeks after the first to enhance the results. Once the full effect is achieved, the results can last for an extended period, with maintenance sessions suggested based on individual needs and lifestyle factors.

Is ProlapLase® suitable for my condition?

ProlapLase® is designed for women with mild to moderate pelvic organ prolapse (POP). During your consultation, we will assess your condition and medical history to confirm if this treatment is the right choice for you.

How does ProlapLase® compare to other treatments for POP?

Unlike surgery or pessaries, ProlapLase® is non-invasive, requires no incisions or anesthesia, and involves minimal downtime. It effectively stimulates collagen remodeling to tighten and strengthen tissues, providing a safer and more convenient option.

What can I expect during the procedure? Will it be painful?

The procedure is comfortable for most patients, with a mild warming sensation during treatment. No anesthesia is needed, and the session typically lasts about 30–45 minutes.

Are there any side effects?

ProlapLase® has minimal side effects, such as mild redness, slight swelling, or temporary vaginal dryness, which usually resolve within a few days. Serious side effects are very rare.

When can I resume normal activities?

You can return to your daily routine immediately after the procedure. However, we recommend avoiding strenuous exercise and sexual activity for 2–3 days to allow the tissue to heal.

Do I need to prepare for the treatment?

No significant preparation is required. However, the treatment should be scheduled outside of your menstrual period, and you should be free from any active vaginal infections.

Will I need maintenance treatments?

Some patients choose to have an annual maintenance session to sustain results, but this varies based on individual needs and lifestyle.

  • Ensure you are free from any active vaginal infections (e.g., yeast or bacterial infections) before the treatment.
  • Schedule your treatment when you’re not on your menstrual period.
  • Stay well-hydrated in the days leading up to your appointment. Hydrated tissues respond better to treatment and can improve overall comfort.
  • Shave the external treatment area a day before your session.
  • On the day of your appointment, wear loose, comfortable clothing to avoid irritation after the treatment.
  • Avoid using tampons, douches, or any vaginal creams 24 hours before your treatment.
  • Inform your provider of any recent gynecological surgeries, treatments, or ongoing medications.
  • Avoid Heavy Exercise for at least 48 hours after the treatment. This allows the treated tissue to heal without added stress.
  • Avoid sexual intercourse for 2-3 days post-treatment to give the area time to heal and minimize the risk of irritation.
  • Avoid hot baths and saunas for 48 hours after treatment.
  • Drink plenty of water in the days following your treatment. Hydration supports collagen production and tissue health, aiding in the healing process.
  • Refrain from using tampons, douches, or vaginal creams for 3-5 days after the procedure.
  • Wear Loose Clothing to prevent friction or pressure on the treated area, which can help reduce any potential discomfort or irritation.
